Spotlight: Wind and gelding operations prior to his seasonal/handicap debut at the Dante meeting here (5f, good to firm) in May, a race in which he proved far too strong for 21 rivals; that race hasn't worked out quite as well as might have been expected and he will need to improve again to defy an 8lb rise; low mileage though and his record suggests a three-month layoff is no bad thing; first run beyond a bare 5f.
Spotlight: He was returning from 318 days on the sidelines when finishing in midfield behind Brazen Bolt here (5f, good to firm) last month on stable debut; stepped forwards from that with a ready success in a 5f Class 4 handicap here 25 days ago; up 6lb but far from exposed after just eight starts.
Spotlight: He had already enjoyed a stellar season when finishing second in this race 12 months ago (good to firm; 1lb lower today); needed his reappearance here last month and then ran well for a long way on the wrong side in the Stewards' Cup; things look in place for another bold bid.
Spotlight: Progressive as a 3yo and he has continued the good work in 2025, winning 6f handicaps at Doncaster and Ripon (both good ground) in June and recording a career best when second at Windsor nine days ago; races off 1lb lower today; not discounted.
Spotlight: Ready win at Redcar (5f, good to firm) in June but not in quite the same form in either run since; has a Group 1 entry next month but she will need to raise her game to take this.
Spotlight: Did second best of the high numbers in this race 12 months ago (off 6lb lower); threatening this year prior to his comfortable win in the Shergar Cup Dash at Ascot 11 days ago (5f, good to firm); apprentice's claim helps offset the weights rise but he's landed another high stall and it remains to be seen whether that will be advantageous.
Spotlight: Struggled last summer and joined Ruth Carr with a much reduced mark to exploit; back in the groove this year, twice placed at Doncaster before hard-fought 5f wins here and at Glorious Goodwood, both for today's apprentice Warren Fentiman; up another 6lb but conditions won't faze him and he had marks of 100 and 102 at one stage last year; should make a bold bid to enhance his trainer's fine record at York this season (four winners from seven runners).
Spotlight: Ran a stormer when sixth in this race last year, doing best of the high numbers; 2lb higher this time around but looks better drawn and he's been in good form in 2025, including twice at this track; big run on the cards.
Spotlight: Netted connections a big bonus when winning a Haydock handicap ten days ago (5f, good to firm), picking off the front-runner late on in a race where little got into it; a 5lb penalty against stronger opposition demands more but conditions should suit and he's thriving this year.
Spotlight: Down the field in this race 12 months ago and had a miserable time in Bahrain earlier this year; back in the groove off a reduced mark this summer though and his defeat of Jm Jungle over 5f here in June looks better now; latest fourth of five at Pontefract is not the run to judge him on and he should be seen to better effect here.
Spotlight: He made giant strides as a 3yo, winning four 5f handicaps and soaring up the weights; both this season's efforts have been encouraging and this Irish raider shouldn't be passed over lightly.
Spotlight: Huge effort from a tough draw when second over 5f at the Dante meeting here in 2024; retains ability but he needs to rebound from a lesser effort at Hamilton last month (6f, good); new cheekpieces could give him a lift and there could yet be a bigger run in him.
Spotlight: Prominent racer; ran well behind Brazen Bolt in a strong 5f handicap here last month and confirmed his wellbeing when scoring at Musselburgh 19 days ago (5f, good); a 3lb rise in a deeper race demands more.
Spotlight: Magnificent veteran who won 5f handicaps at Pontefract and Chester in June and finished fourth in big-field handicaps here twice last month; another solid effort behind Spring Is Sprung at Haydock ten days ago; minor money perhaps his best hope.
Spotlight: Unexposed 3yo; good second of six on his handicap debut at Doncaster last month (5f, good to firm) and subsequent Goodwood defeat is easy enough to forgive on account of rain-softened ground and racing alone up the middle of the track; can rate higher but this looks a tough assignment.
Spotlight: Has won on a straight track in Bahrain but best known for his exploits around Chester, winning for the seventh time at that venue when making all in a 6f Listed race 17 days ago (good to firm); cheekpieces worn there are replaced by a visor today; Oisin Murphy booked but this 6yo is into new territory in terms of his handicap mark and others appeal more.
Spotlight: Had a mark of just 59 when winning Dundalk handicap in January; he has added two handicap wins at the Curragh since, as well as several good efforts in defeat, but whether he's up to winning a race of this nature is questionable.
Spotlight: Smart front-runner on his day; the handicapper took a dim view of his Beverley win last September and he has found it tough going this time around, including at Redcar 11 days ago after a wind op; he is well handicapped again now though and should have a big run in him if his high draw proves no hindrance.
Spotlight: Two wins this season, both at a lower level; only midfield behind Brazen Bolt at Goodwood three weeks ago and Kevin Ryan could hold stronger claims elsewhere.
Spotlight: A wind operation in October 2023 proved successful and he had some smart sprint form last year, notably a narrow win at Glorious Goodwood (5f, good; made all); ran well off this mark at Southwell when last seen 356 days ago; upset in the stalls and withdrawn at Goodwood in May; this is a tough race in which to make his return.

The Man looked good when comfortably seeing off his 21 opponents here at the Dante meeting and still has potential as a sprint handicapper. That race hasn't worked out as well as might have been expected though and this will require further progress from him. Last year's runner-up Jordan Electrics is running himself back into form and he can go well, while cases can also be made for Spring Is Sprung, Air Force One and Kendall Roy. New cheekpieces could give Vantheman a lift and he is second choice but BRAZEN BOLT is preferred in his hat-trick bid. He hasn't had much to spare on his last two starts but he has shown a tremendous attitude and he saw off a couple of progressive 3yos when successful at Goodwood. He's potentially well drawn, has conditions to suit and still has some handicapping scope given he had marks just into the 100s not that long ago. He can make it 3-3 under Warren Fentiman and enhance Ruth Carr's fine York record in 2025.[Paul Smith] Show less
