Spotlight: Lightly raced 4yo; winning an Ascot handicap (good to firm) in May was her best form and would give her leading claims in this but that was registered over 1m; seventh of 23 in Royal Ascot handicap over that same C&D next time and beaten a neck in 1m2f Listed race here (good; just ahead of Charlotte's Web) on latest outing, but she's not a certainty to get 1m4f.
Spotlight: Half-brother Desert Hero has smart form at 1m2f-1m6f; made debut only six weeks ago when second in a novice at Chester (1m2f, good); went one better in novice at Newmarket (1m2f, good to soft) three weeks ago with a plucky display from the front, which leaves her with plenty to find in this company but she is open to improvement, for sure, including at 1m4f.
Spotlight: Highly progressive in AW handicaps prior to creditable third of six in Group 3 at Newcastle (again AW) in June, all at about 1m2f; she's failed to match that back on turf (good; unraced on firmer) for her last two outings, but kept on steadily for a close third of 12 (on the heels of Rainbows Edge) in Listed race here on latest to give some hope for this new trip.
Spotlight: Won a 1m2f maiden at Leopardstown (good) in May; struggled since in a Listed race and two Group 3s at up to 1m5f, but her near 9l fourth of seven from off the pace when 66-1 in the Irish Oaks at the Curragh (1m4f, good) on latest outing was seemingly easily her best effort; that was a steadily run race but she has to be considered seriously.
Spotlight: 0-9 since handicap win here last July; seven of those defeats were in Listed races but runner-up in five, including in this race last year and on three occasions this season, so has each-way claims again.
Spotlight: Had 1m4f wins in the spring in a maiden at Southwell (AW) and handicap at Chester (good); 11-1 for Group 2 Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot (1m4f, good to firm) two months ago, racing a bit freely and never threatening in seventh of 11 but that is her best form; might still be able to build on that.
Spotlight: Easily got off the mark in an optional claiming race at Fairyhouse (1m2f, good) on third start; made further marked improvement when winning a four-runner handicap at Leopardstown (1m1f, good to yielding) later in July, again making all; this is a sterner test in every respect but 1m4f looks plausible and she's unexposed, heading the right way.
Spotlight: Won 9.4f AW maiden in April and finished strongly when second on handicap debut at Salisbury (1m2f) in June; moving up to 1m4f at Ascot (again good to firm) six weeks ago did not produce the scale of improvement which was expected but that was a muddling race and a stronger pace today could help her to make further progress, which is certainly needed.
Spotlight: Seen mostly at 1m, over which she was a below-form eighth of 23 in Royal Ascot handicap on latest outing; has had only one crack at 1m2f even, when third of six in Listed race at Nottingham (good to firm) in April and that was one of her best efforts, 1l behind Karmology; mixed signals on pedigree for 1m4f, with stamina on the dam's side; same connections were seventh and first in last two renewals of this race with Scenic.
Spotlight: She's by a stamina influence but is from a speedy family; hooded both starts; always behind at Ascot (1m2f, good to firm) in May but joint-favourite for a novice at Kempton (1m3f, AW) seven weeks ago and made good headway to go on over 1f out for a clearcut win; while she should prove capable of better, a great deal better is needed at this level.

This is quite a puzzle, with none of them seeming to quite fit the fill. Last year's second Karmology should be on the premises again but she is 0-7 in Listed races and may again come up short. Butterfly Wings appeared to raise her game substantially in the Irish Oaks last time but it's tempting to treat that result with a pinch of salt. With Rainbows Edge and Charlotte's Web, two of those with leading form claims, needing to stretch their stamina, it might be worth siding with the potential of twice-raced AEOLIAN over a new trip, with Irish hat-trick seeker Alice Monet (yet another who's not yet tried 1m4f) the second choice.[Richard Austen] Show less
